Gingerbread, Gingerbread and More Gingerbread

by Deborah Love on December 11, 2009

Gingerbread HouseI love Gingerbread houses at Christmastime, almost as much as the light tour my husband and I go on every year, in search of the “Best Christmas Lights Ever” in our own Salt Lake City (more about that later).

My tradition most years has been to have the grandkids over ( no easy trick since 4 of them live in Missouri or as my Holland says “Mithuri Nana just Mithuri”…don’t ya just love kids… ) and do something that should resemble Gingerbread houses, trains, etc and sometimes they actually give the impression of what they are supposed to be!

The real thrill of this adventure is not in the perfection of a gingerbreadingredients house, but in the licking of icing off  fingers (faces and everything in between) , the sneaking of the candy that was Meant for the Gingerbread house,  the inspiring Christmas music playing the background, the pungent and spicy smell (and taste) of vanilla, ginger, cloves and other ingredients of the gingerbread, and the memories of love and laughter between grandkids, siblings, and most of all grand parents!

So, break out the pans and have some fun this season.  Here is a link that has great Gingerbread houses and recipies, be my guest! http://www.gingerbreadlane.com/  Oh, and if you have traditions near and dear to your heart….I would love to hear them and share them with everyone!
